********** NOTICE ********** YOU'RE GETTING A NEW MEDICARE CARD
Cards will be mailed between April 2018 – April 2019 You asked, and we listened. You’re getting a new Medicare card! Between April 2018 and April 2019, we’ll be removing Social Security numbers from Medicare cards and mailing each person a new card. This will help keep your information more secure and help protect your identity. You’ll get a new Medicare Number that’s unique to you, and it will only be used for your Medicare coverage. The new card won’t change your coverage or benefits. You’ll get more information from Medicare when your new card is mailed. Here’s how you can get ready:
■ Make sure your mailing address is up to date. If your address needs to be corrected, contact Social Security at ssa.gov/myaccount or 1-800-772-1213. TTY users can call 1-800-325-0778.
■ Beware of anyone who contacts you about your new Medicare card. We’ll never ask you to give us personal or private information to get your new Medicare Number and card.
■ Understand that mailing everyone a new card will take some time. Your card might arrive at a different time than your friend’s or neighbor’s.

"I organized The Atlas Center Steppers classes a little over ten years ago at the
SouthEast Atlas Regional Center on Chicago's south side. The purpose was to
learn the dance known as "Steppin." Steppin was created in Chicago over forty
years ago. The group mixes socializing, conversation and dancing in fun filled
sessions every Tuesday morning at The Center. In addition to attending "Stepper Sets" around The City, The group sponsors it's own stepper set "Steppin at High Noon" at the legendary 50 Yard Line every month"
FOX Chicago profiles one of the Food Depository’s older adult choice markets.
(FOX Chicago News) -
We're teaming up with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to help fight hunger all year long.
While food drives are popular during the holiday season, hunger knows no season and we can all help feed those in need in the Chicagolandarea.
Seniors are most vulnerable today, contending with rising health care costs and increasing food prices. Hundreds of thousands of older Cook County adults are at risk of hunger and food insecurity. The food depositoryis trying to change that.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository operates 13 senior markets throughout Cook County. They provide fresh produce and non-perishable goods to struggling seniors.
"You have to remember with our seniors, many of them have high prescription drug costs every month. To be in a position where they have to make a choice between do I buy fresh produce or do I pay for my medication. That's not a great place to be. Having this really puts them more at ease," said Robin Tillotson, Director of the Department of Senior Services.
As food prices continue to rise, many seniors are struggling to get by on their limited fixed incomes.
"It's really a great program to supplement their meals. Sometimes there's more mouth left than money and so it helps budget wise. It helps our seniors who don't always feel like cooking or don't have access to fresh produce and vegetables. It's really good we have this so they can balance out their meals and eat healthy and even add more years to their lives," Tillotson said.

AARP
The budget proposed by Governor Pat Quinn is bad news for seniors struggling to remain in
their homes as they age. The proposed budget eliminates a critical pharmaceutical assistance program and cuts funding for home delivered meal services. It will also cut funding for other home and community
based services that keep people from being forced into costly institutions and funding that provides property tax relief to
thousands of seniors who live on fixed incomes.
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD NOW!
Call your representative today at 1.800.664.9903 and tell them to stop cuts to critical senior services. Cutting these services
will push people into costly nursing homes, take meals off the tables of struggling seniors, and
attempt to balance the budget on the backs of seniors that need help paying for their medications.
